Health Information and Resources

Many have studied the reasons for health disparities (poor health outcomes) in underserved communities and nearly every one relates to access to health information and care. At Right To Health, we believe that although that is true, it is also about understanding how and what to do to take control of our own health behavior. Perhaps you didn't know that there are foods that help to lower cholesterol and stress. Maybe if you could learn low-cost foods that help your body and mind, you would use that information to create a healthier shopping list when you buy groceries. You may hear that more exercise helps, but if you can't afford a fitness membership, what other options are there for you?

But more, it is also important to have access to ways you can change the larger community around you and work with others to look at your health in the bigger picture. For instance, did you know that by learning to use a computer, you can write letters to elected officials about your health concerns? You can even communicate with others who share your concerns and arrange transportation to places you want to go, perhaps a fruit or vegetable store or an exercise class. Many places have childcare or elder support during times you might want to go, meet, participate or learn. We are building a list of things you can do and learn that will help you take control and responsibility for your own health by learning many healthy behaviors so that you can choose those that best fit your needs and abilities.
